There are over 49,000 military-connected children throughout Orange County, CA. These children of military families are brave, resilient, adaptable and tenacious - whose daily sacrifices often go unnoticed by the general public. Military kids and teens can face many significant challenges.
Challenges Military Children Face
- Lengthy separations from loved-ones
- Frequent relocations that often end trusted friendships
- Multiple cycles of adapting to new schools
- Feelings of isolation
While most military kids learn how to manage the unique challenges they face, there are times when military families become overwhelmed and need help! That is why in 2015, Child Guidance Center created the Strong Families, Strong Children program.
Strong Families, Strong Children is designed specifically to meet the needs and culture of veteran and military families with children. This nonprofit program focuses on providing eligible families with case-managed mental health, legal, domestic violence, and housing services. Strong Families, Strong Children’s licensed mental health clinicians, and Peer Navigators are themselves veterans or have been raised in a military home – helping to make immediate connections of trust and respect with enrolled families.
Who Strong Families, Strong Children Helps
Strong Families, Strong Children helps active duty or veterans of the armed forces, services members of the Reserve or National Guard, and families of Fallen Service members. Each week, the Child Guidance Center’s Strong Families, Strong Children program assist hundreds of family members. Services are ALWAYS FREE OF CHARGE for eligible families thanks to generous funding from a variety of sources including Hoag Community Benefit Program, Orange County Community Foundation, and the Orange County Health Care Agency.
