KaMala Thomas

Board Member

Dr. KaMala Thomas works as a clinical health psychologist at Orange County Health Psychologists, Inc. in Irvine, CA. Throughout her career, she has been focused on working with patients from culturally diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds. She has expertise in working with patients who have a history of trauma and those who have struggled with chronic health conditions.

Dr. Thomas holds a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology from UC San Diego and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from San Diego State University. She also completed both internship and postdoctoral training at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute and the UCLA Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology. She is passionate about work that promotes diversity issues and addresses health disparities. Prior to working as a psychotherapist, she was an assistant professor at Pitzer College, a member of the Claremont University Consortium in Southern California. Although she currently has a full-time clinical practice, she remains involved in research addressing health disparities, and has published numerous studies in this area. In addition to serving on CGC’s board, she is currently the Diversity and Inclusion committee chair and Board Member at Large for Orange County Psychological Association. She also recently served a panel expert in the American Psychological Association’s stress and health disparities working group.  

Dr. Thomas and her husband enjoy traveling and visiting their extended family throughout the United States. She also loves writing and enjoying the arts.
