What is Trauma-Informed Care — And Why Does It Matter?

At Child Guidance Center OC, all of our services are rooted in trauma-informed care, but what does that really mean?

Trauma-informed care is a way of providing support that recognizes the impact of past trauma on a child’s behavior, development, and relationships. Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with this child?” we ask, “What has this child experienced?”

This approach:

  • Builds trust and a sense of safety.

  • Helps children feel heard and respected.

  • Supports healing, not just behavior management.

Our clinicians are trained to recognize signs of trauma, avoid re-traumatization, and work collaboratively with families to restore a child’s sense of control and hope.
